Faulty Wells Leak Gas To Marcellus, Barnett Water, Study Says – Law360

Law360, Dallas (September 15, 2014, 9:12 PM ET) — Fracking in the Marcellus and Barnett shales isn’t leading to groundwater contamination, but improperly drilled wells are allowing fugitive shale gas to leak into groundwater, according to a study released Monday.

Researchers from Ohio State University, Duke University and the University of Rochester studied gas isotopes in groundwater above the two booming shale plays and found fugitive shale gas leaking into the water originated from faulty well casing and cement construction.
