Countries should be free to explore shale: UK PM | Shale Energy Insider

UK Prime Minister David Cameron spoke at a UN summit on global warming where he said that shale gas can help solve the climate change problem and ‘green tape’ should not come in the way, adding that countries should be free to explore shale gas as well as nuclear power.

The Telegraph has reported a source in the government as saying that: “We’ve got further to go in terms of explaining how tackling climate change isn’t simply a green policy, it’s a growth policy. If you’re going to get the world’s biggest economies to stick to the 2C target, you’ve got to be serious about cutting green tape and creating green jobs.”

Earlier this week, research from a university in the UK revealed that greenhouse gas emissions from the production and use of shale gas would be comparable to conventional natural gas, but the controversial energy source actually faired better than renewables on some environmental impacts.
