Sofia. “I would like to assure all citizens that the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters will not allow illegal methods of oil and natural gas extraction. This is provided in the Bulgarian legislation and the decision made on August 26, which in fact sets the framework and conditions for illegal implementation of the contract signed in April 2014 with Park Place Energy Corporation company. This decision restricts the possibility of violations,” said Svetlana Zhekova, interim Minister of Environment and Water, speaking for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
Minister Zhekova explained that the only instruments that the ministry might use in such cases were the environment impact assessment and the compatibility assessment.
“The plan for 2014 does not envisage any extraction and the coal and shale gas are not mentioned anywhere,” the minister added.
